Tension – Des Moines Commemorates Centennial Celebration on August 11, 2024
Kansas City, Mo. — Tension Corporation proudly announces the 100th anniversary of opening its Des Moines location. Tension Corporation, now 138 years old, broke ground in Des Moines on August 11, 1924, helping it grow from a Kansas City-based business to a nationwide operation and one of the largest envelope manufacturers in the world.
“We are excited to celebrate the centennial milestone of our Des Moines plant,” said Bill Berkley, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Tension Corporation. “When my grandfather, E.B. Berkowitz, helped open the Des Moines location 100 years ago, it was to meet the growing demand of our Midwest customers. Over the past century, our talented Associates have continued to deliver the highest quality products and service, not just within Des Moines, but to our customers throughout the Midwest and West Coast. We are grateful for their positive spirit and accomplishments. Des Moines is a wonderful community in which to do business.”
The Tension-DM facility has long been a leader in Tension’s commitment to innovation, quality, lean manufacturing, and community. Known for its talented and diverse workforce, Tension-DM regularly receives industry recognition for quality and safety. Tension-DM also remains involved in the community, most recently maintaining a community garden with Lutheran Services of Iowa, and supporting organizations such as the Iowa College Fund, the Greater Des Moines Partnership and United Way.

Anniversary festivities will include associate appreciation activities, with a larger private celebration to be held on September 28.
