March 17, 2026 marks the 140th anniversary of Tension Corporation. From our founding in 1886, Tension began with a simple premise. We focus on customer service, product quality, consistent processes, and respect for people. These are not short-term strategies. They are lasting requirements for success. Quality, integrity, respect, and accountability are values we practice every day. We have refined these values over time. Generations of Tension associates have carried them forward with the understanding that enduring success results from consistency and care.
Tension Corporation started as a novelty business. It later expanded into envelopes, earning a reputation for precision and scalability. For 140 years, this success has been built on the company’s most fundamental principle. Associates are its most valuable resource and the bedrock of progress, growth, and sustainability.
From the first year to the 140th, Tension’s history and legacy have grown stronger through generations of leaders. Tension has been family-owned and operated since its founding by William J. Berkowitz. Leadership then moved to his sons, E.B. and Walter Berkowitz. It later passed to his grandson, Bert Berkley. Now it is led by his great-grandson, Bill Berkley, the current Chairman and CEO.
Tension has demonstrated a willingness to test ideas and adapt to new markets. We invest for the long term and give back to our communities. Today’s Tension Corporation encompasses three divisions: Tension Envelope & Print, Tension Packaging & Automation, and Tension International.
Grounded in its core values, Tension Corporation has evolved to meet new technologies and market demands. Safety, teamwork, ingenuity, and continuous improvement continue to guide our operations. As we mark 140 years, we celebrate not only longevity but consistency. The same values that guided Tension at its founding still guide Tension Envelope and Print today. They ensure strength, stability, and a trusted partnership for the future.
As we commemorate our 140th anniversary, we deeply appreciate the trust and collaboration you’ve shared with us. We look forward to building what’s next, together.
