Packaging System Reduces Dimensional Weight and Allows Distribution Center Flexibility
Kansas City, Mo. – The Intelligent Random Box Sizer System, sold in the United States exclusively by Tension Packaging & Automation, recently received top honors as the 2015 ‘Most Innovative Automation System’ by the PPMA Group. Specifically designed for eCommerce and online order fulfillment, the system helps lower rates and increase shipping efficiency.
The fourth annual PPMA Group Industry Awards celebrate the best innovations in the UK across a variety of categories. An independent panel judged the awards and winners were announced during the PPMA Show on September 29 to an audience of hundreds of industry leaders.
The Intelligent Random Box Sizer System was chosen out of seven other nominees to win the coveted industry award. The system, designed in response to the Dimensional Weight (DIM) rules imposed by UPS and FedEx in January 2015, measures the empty volume left in a loaded carton using a Vision System that indentifies the height of the products within the package. It then cuts the box to the smallest possible size, creases, folds and seals the flaps down securely around the goods. The result is a carton with reductions in volume and associated void fill, leading to potential cost savings.
Unlike other DIM-reducing packaging system, Tension’s Intelligent Random Box Sizer is built to accommodate a random stream of order sizes, groupings and cartons. Additionally the Box Sizer can use the customer’s standard cartons, eliminating the need for materials contracts and allowing for easy integration into distribution centers.
“Winning this award further demonstrates Tension’s dedication to providing the highest quality products to our clients,” said Ken Myers, Director of Tension Packaging & Automation. “We are proud to be the exclusive supplier of the Intelligent Random Box Sizer System in the U.S. Our clients tell us they value the Box Sizer’s ability to reduce costs of labor, shipping rates and materials.”
The PPMA Group, founded in 1988 by a panel of eight manufacturers, works to promote machinery sales through various projects and services of mutual benefit to both members and their customers by providing free technical and machinery information and advice.
Earlier this year, the Intelligent Random Box Sizer System won two IntraLogistex 2015 awards, including the Packaging and Warehouse award and Infrastructure and Services award.
